The Little Muntjac is a countryside café tucked away at Moorlands farm fisheries, offering a quiet stop for those making their way off the busy A449 and down the lane. It’s a spot that naturally draws anglers spending their day by the fishing lakes, but also welcomes locals and visitors looking for a laid-back, no-fuss place to enjoy a casual meal or a coffee break.

The atmosphere feels refreshingly unhurried, with a large indoor dining space that can easily accommodate groups without feeling cramped. On colder days, the warmth inside contrasts with the outdoor scene where fishermen might be busy with competitions or quietly tending their rods. In fair weather, sitting by the lakeside and watching the activity outside adds a certain rustic charm to your visit.

Breakfasts here, particularly the English Breakfast, provide solid value and a hearty start for those planning a day outdoors. The café’s menu leans toward simple, familiar fare, like burgers and paninis, paired with a surprisingly good range of indulgent milkshakes. Alongside these, the homemade cakes have found their fans locally, often highlighted as worth trying for visitors looking for a sweet treat.

While not right on site, the nearby toilet facilities require a short walk, which can be a minor inconvenience in wet weather but is balanced by the café’s countryside setting and calm pace. The staff, including the owner and team, have a reputation for friendliness and accommodating specific requests—one visitor even got a bespoke cheesecake made by advance arrangement, highlighting the attentive, community-minded approach behind the counter.

The Little Muntjac is best suited to those who appreciate a quieter rural café experience, whether stopping by for breakfast before fishing, enjoying a midday meal with family or friends, or simply looking for a coffee spot away from the main roads. Early midweek visits or weekend mornings tend to be the quietest times, offering quicker service and a chance to soak in the peaceful surroundings.

Fantastic cafe by the fishing lakes, breakfasts are great and good value, would recommend the cakes, delicious, only downside is the toilets are a little walk away from the cafe which is lovely except when it's raining, but it is only a bit of water

This isn't the kind of place you stumble across as you have to come off the main A449 and turn down a track but it is worth it. There are a series of anglers pools here so ideal for people who love to fish. This is a licensed cafe so you can buy beers and alcohol here. Nice range of simple meals like burgers and paninis and delicious milk shakes. Very large dining area with plenty of seating.

What a surprise ! I have driven past the entrance thousands of times and live within walking distance. Today was the day that I gave it a try. Once getting past the shock of passing a load of men smashing the ice to fish on a cold winter day I got inside the warm cafe. A warm welcome and all the fishermen were outside in competition mode so quick service awaited. I was met with a smile and a welcome. Not long followed by a full English breakfast. Had a chat with a few friendly fishermen and enjoyed the atmosphere. Really impressed and I will be back.

The owner Grant was friendly and Nicola which was good as in these misunderstood and scary times you have times people / businesses can be unfortunately hostile which I think of when visiting new places especially going with my baby . I messaged Nicola beforehand on FB and she so kindly made the cheesecake I wanted. It look absolutely beautiful and was homemade . The milkshakes were delicious . It was made with fresh strawberries and generous portion very homemade tasting definitely in its own lane compared to the normal powdery processed crap you get at some places. They have outside seating which is lovely and overlooks a lake. The inside is also pretty and clean. Next time will try the food . Thanks ! x
